I imagine another evening lost in the desert wilderness as the night sky descends on the last rays of sunlight. Strange lights becon me to walk in this darkness, to continue on this journey and arrive in a strange land. I remember a quote "The most precious light is the one that visits you in your darkest hour!” and I am there caught in of what I hope is the end of the dark hour. Show me a light I pray.
"Encounters" is my latest series of mixed media work. This new resin casting has me imagining the encounters we have while our life journey. Light is a subject matter as much as the sculptural forms.
Our personal journeys take us to many places. At times we find ourselves along paths that are unmarked and without light to guide us. We are forced to confront fears that only darkness can produce. But we are driven to explore, it is part of our DNA as humans whether it is reaching to the stars or the depths of the ocean or... the boundaries of our imagination. We begin the journey as children: bringing natural curiosity as artists, scientist, and philosophers.
I continue to be drawn to the themes of the cycle of life that center on renewal and rebirth and drawing on contrast between light and dark in my artwork. I recognize that these are "esoteric" conversations but I am musing at the what is described as a "mystery" in a biblical sense.
The creative process compels me to a spirit of surrender, I know who my enemy is and surrender is the process by which we succeed.. As Steven Pressfield put's it :
"Most of us have two lives. The life we live, and the un-lived life within us. Between the two stands Resistance. " and "The more important a call or action is to our soul’s evolution, the more Resistancewe will feel toward pursuing it."
